'So sorry to hear about Nancy's passing. She was a such a smart, talented. and delightful person!
I have fond memories of our monthly, Saturday trips over to Michigan State U., as Nancy, Kirk Roose, Jane Frink and I were in the Michigan Honors Choir. I became the designated driver for us on our trips over to MSU in my new, compact Vauxhall (Manufactured by GM in England). We had such fun, teenage times on those trips -- laughing and having great times all the way there and back, punctuated with lunches at Howard Johnson's. I still remember how Jane always sat in the passenger seat, Kirk behind her, and Nancy behind the driver seat. Isn't it funny how little details like that have stuck in the memory bank for over sixty years!
I also had the honor and pleasure of serving as the organist for Nancy's wedding at St. Thomas More Cartholic Church when I was a student at Oakland University.
I don't think we fully realize how short our life's journey is when we're young. I'm happy to know that Nancy enjoyed a richly fulfilling one, doing what she loved to do.
Dancing with Nancy. At the 20th class reunion I sat glowering at the blasting roar of moldy oldies that the DJ was sure all us old coots of 38 years would want to hear. I wanted to talk to people, and I couldn't with all that noise. Then Nancy walked over all aglow of blond hair and her 500 watt smile and asked me to dance.
"I can't dance," I said. "I flunked rhythm in kindergarden." Which was actually true, but my incompetence on the dance floor extended well beyond that.
"Aw, come on," she persisted.
"All I can do is grab hold and shuffle." She was not detered. I got up, put my left arm around her waist, and held out my right. I got that right, at least. I shuffled around as she danced. The music stopped, and she said, "That wasn't so bad," her smile still intact. I guess it wasn't.
I am sorry 2 know that Nancy has died. She had the most beautiful smile and when she saw me she always smiled at me With all the ups and downs of high-school, and the unpredictable changes, .........Nancy didnt change.........she always smiled. God be with you. J.
I am so sad to hear of Nacy's passing. While I didn' t know her well, like all of you we rremeber her wonderful and perpetual smile. Everyone liked her. RIP Nancy.
As we mourn the passing of lovely Nancy, I reflect on my childhood memories of Rochester. I feel fortunate to have been raised in the village in the 1950's. We were safe and could move freely to the parks, to school, to Main Street, the movie theater and Red Knapps Dairy Bar. We could go to our friends homes and be welcomed.
Last June 2025, I visited Rochester with my niece, my great niece and two great nephews (my sisters family), all who currently live in California. I wanted them to see where their grandmother and aunt (me) grew up. The main village hasn't changed. We walked easily from downtown to the old school, home on 7th Street, passing friends homes, on to Avon Park and Avon cemetery where my parents, grandparents and aunt & uncles lie. It was a great time with great memories.
Many of our classmates are now gone but they help us to remember those years when we were all young and learning to navigate this world and Rochester gave us the opportunity to mature on good ways.
Taj-that's what many of us called her. I've been thinking about what to write and, unfortunately, my memory is not as sharp as many of yours! But, Taj was a very special friend in my life. And, as I reflect, I do believe she was an angel among us. Her Finnish upbringing gave her many beautiful attributes : intelligence, openness, compassion, and acceptance of all. We stayed in touch for quite a while, but when Parkinson's became too limiting, we stopped communicating. She was talented in so many ways, particullaly music and dance. She was a "mover and a shaker" when it came to getting things started and done, especially in Brooklyn. How blessed we all were to have had her in our lives. Miss you, dear friend
So sorry to hear of her passing, didnt know her well but blessings to her family. We have lost way too many of our classmates, hoping the rest are happy and well.
Taj-that's what many of her friends called her. We became friends in Jr. Hi and remained so throughout her life. She influence me in so many ways. Her strength in the face of adversity was tremendous! She was a positive force in all she attempted, her career, the Revels Brooklyn group, her being responsible for dance being a vital part in the Parkinson's center. It's difficult for me to speak of her in the past tense, still. I will miss her smile, her positive perspective on all things and her giving spirit. Miss you, Taj.
RIP my friend! You were always smiling and happy! A delightful person to know and be friends with! I thoroughly enjoyed the short time we spent at your family home on Portgage Lake in the copper country! Until we meet again, spread your angel wings and keep smiling! 🙏💕<>>
